Enjoy a free day of family fun at the award-winning festival designed to get you active, learn something new, and enjoy time together!

Go WILD this Family Day holiday! Your family can discover fun and interactive activities about wildlife, nature, and conservation! Take in an interactive show with special guest, the Animal Ambassadors of Soper Creek Wildlife Rescue!

Enjoy activities from a variety of grouops and organizations, including:

Special Guest: Soper Creek Wildlife Rescue

Take part in a fun and educational show with Soper Creek Wildlife Rescue and their Animal Ambassadors! Pick up your ticket on the day of the event.

Durham Region's only wildlife rehabilitation centre, Soper Creek Wildlife Rescue is licensed by the Ministry of Natural Resources & Forestry and Canadian Wildlife Services to rescue, rehabilitate and release sick, injured, abandoned and orphaned wildlife.

Soper Creek's WILDLIFE Detectives presentation will have you dancing, participating in guessing games, interacting with our Animal Ambassadors and listening to stories about wildlife rehabilitation.

Children put on their "listening ears", and use their "owl eyes" to uncover and discover unique adaptations that native species have to survive in WILD Ontario and its four seasons. Does a porcupine really shoot their quills? How far can skunks spray? Is it true that a bear slows down its heart beat and doesn’t go to the bathroom for 5 months in the winter!?

Also be sure to visit their WILDLIFE Detectives learning display! This interactive and engaging display is comprised of skulls, pelts, bones and more to offer memorable learning experience. Through games, tactile animal artifacts, colour sheets, stickers and activity books children are able to continue learning about Ontario Wildlife. At the Wildlife Rescue First Aid Station, children can bring a stuffed animal to learn how to fix/wrap a broken leg or arm.

About the Festival

Now in its seventeenth consecutive year, Winter WonderLearn is a day of free family fun! Children and their families can enjoy Family Day together at an event that celebrates Clarington and the family learning opportunities that thrive here. Shake off the winter blahs at this interactive learning festival. Local organizations offer demonstrations and workshops in literacy, arts, sports, history, science, nature, safety, and health.

Throughout the event, families can explore interactive activities, make a craft or two, and have fun together. The festival allows people to learn about the local organizations that make up our community, learn something new, and spend time together as a family!

Angus Mowat Award

We're incredibly proud and excited to announce that the Library has received a provincial Ontario Public Library Service Award, the Angus Mowat Award of Excellence, for the Winter WonderLearn Festival!

Managed by the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, the Ontario Public Library Service Awards identify and promote creative public library service ideas. The Angus Mowat Award of Excellence recognizes a commitment to excellence in the delivery of public library service.

Clarington Public Library received the award for its well-known annual Winter WonderLearn Festival, which has showcased community partners and focused on free educational and interactive family activities for the past fifteen years.

This year’s Festival, which celebrates the theme of “Music and Sound”, is right around the corner for those who want to experience it for themselves. Children and their families can shake off the winter blahs, enjoy interactive demonstrations and activities offered by local organizations, and catch a show with special guest, Juno-nominated Music by Jake. The Municipality of Clarington is also offering a free swim at the Courtice Community Complex from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. The Festival is made possible through the generous support of Ontario Power Generation.
