Join veteran Larry Bryan as he takes a look at Remembrance Day through the lens of history. Mr. Bryan will discuss heroic individuals, why we wear a poppy, and the important act of remembrance.

Mr. Bryan is a Past Serving Member of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Highlanders, member of the Glen’s Association, member of the Ontario Regiment Museum in Oshawa, member of the NATO Veterans Group, Cambridge Unit 5, member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 178, and an Honorary Member of the Royal Canadian Dragoons.

Join Indigenous artist Moses Lunham live via Zoom! Choose how you attend, either share the creativity as part of a group at the Courtice Branch, or relax from the comfort of home!

Moses will share the inspiration behind his painting and will guide you with step-by-step instructions to create your own Falling Leaves Moon picture. No prior artistic experience is necessary!

Offered in partnership with York/Durham Region Public Libraries.

Supplies

Participants attending from home will need to have the following supplies on hand:

  • Acrylic paint (black, white, blue, yellow, and red);
  • Brushes (small, medium, and large);
  • A canvas (12” x 16” or smaller);
  • Plastic cups for water;
  • Paper plates or paint palettes; and
  • Paper towel.

Supplies will be provided for those in-person participants at the Courtice Branch.

About Moses Lunham

Moses Lunham (Anishnaabe) is from Kettle and Stony Point First Nation. An accomplished artist who has shared his work in many art exhibitions and on the Pow Wow trail for many years. Moses continues to work with many school boards and organizations throughout the year teaching art and culture. "My work is a reflection of my people. Their spirituality and ideology." Caregivers and support staff for people with disabilities are admitted free of charge.

Recommended that attendees bring a lunch or snack.

This Canadian Safety Council course gives youth the tools and information they need to stay at home alone for short periods of time. The course is facilitated by Red Cross certified instructors from React Right Safety Services.

Topics include:

  • Looking after the house key (make a key chain);
  • Preparing healthy snacks;*
  • Walking home;
  • Appropriate activities when home alone;
  • Electrical/fire safety;
  • Basic First Aid; and
  • Problem solving (house broken into, severe weather).

*Note: A healthy snack will be prepared during this program. Please advise staff of any allergies at time of registration.

Please note that caregivers of children under the age of 10 must be present in the Library for the duration of the program.
