Singing and music are an important part of early literacy. Learning new words and rhythms are just the beginning. Music affects brain development in areas of memory, spatial reasoning, problem solving, and pattern recognition which are all fundamental elements of getting every child ready to read!

Babysitting Course (Session 2)

Cost $49; includes participant manual.

This course teaches you the fundamental skills needed to start your own babysitting service. A Red Cross certified instructor from React Right Safety Services teaches the class.

Topics include:

  • How to give appropriate care for infants, toddlers and school-aged children;
  • Dealing with basic First Aid emergencies;
  • How to recognize potential hazards;
  • What parents expect of a babysitter;
  • How to safely find customers; and
  • Rural babysitting.

Note: bring a lunch or snack, and a teddy bear to practice on!

Presented in partnership with React Right Safety Services. 

Other sessions of Babysitting Course are offered on Saturday, April 22nd and Sunday, April 23; and Saturday, June 17th and Sunday, June 18th.

Cost $49; includes participant manual.

This Canadian Safety Council course gives you the tools and information you need to stay at home alone for short periods of time. The course is facilitated by Red Cross certified instructors from React Right Safety Services. 

Topics include:

  • Looking after the house key (make a key chain); 
  • Preparing healthy snacks;
  • Walking home;
  • Appropriate activities when home alone; 
  • Electrical/fire safety; 
  • Basic First Aid; and 
  • Problem solving (house broken into, severe weather). 

Note: a healthy snack will be prepared during this program. Please advise staff of any allergies at time of registration.

Step up and join the LEGO Robotics League! You and your teammates will tackle building and programming a LEGO Mindstorms EV3 robot!

Compete in challenges using motors and infrared sensors to create a fully interactive robot that responds to its surroundings. Command your robots to move in circles, dance, speak, react when it sees a specific colour, or throw a ball at a target.

Participants will develop an understanding of basic robotics and programming in a team building and fun environment.
